WATCH: Civil War Fashion Exhibit at Kent State Museum

Dresses, coats and uniforms from the late 19th century are on display

Civil War era dresses, coats and other garments are on display in the in the exhibit On the Home Front: Civil War Fashions and Domestic Life.

The exhibit brings together ornate clothing from the era as this year America marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the war.

Sara Hume, a professor at Kent State's Fashion School and a curator at the museum, said the pieces are from the museum's collection and from the Western Reserve Historical Society.

"The emphasis is really on Ohio area costumes, or slightly more generally north," Hume said. "But it really is a concentration on the north or the Midwest and the clothing that was worn there. These are very typical outfits."

The exhibit will be on display until August 2012.
