$34,000 STEM Grant Awarded To Lakewood Schools

LAKEWOOD, OH — A $34,000 STEM grant will be awarded to the Lakewood Schools.

The grant is being given by the Howmet Aerospace Foundation and will be used to bolster the district's STEM resources across all grades, the district said. Every building in the district will soon have a Sphero programmable robots package, thanks to the grant.

"We are thrilled to have played a part in securing this grant to enrich STEM education in our District," said Terri Richars, executive director of the Lakewood Rangers Education Foundation (LREF). "LREF’s mission is to help provide a world class public education for each and every Lakewood student and we are grateful for partners like the Howmet Aerospace Foundation, who assist us in fulfilling that commitment."

Howmet officials thought of the grant after their attention was directed to the district by one of their trustees, Heather Watson. Watson is also a parent of a Lakewood Schools student and a member of the LREF executive board.

“We are so thankful to LREF and the Howmet Foundation for their amazing support of our students. The Spheros' Bolt Power Pack compiles the best of Spheros' STEM solutions all in one package enabling our students to use programmable robots to learn programming while completing educational activities," said Lakewood Schools Assistant Superintendent Christine Palumbo.
