SWAT Team, Six Police Departments Respond to False Alarm on Madison
Dozens of neighbors watched as officers with assault rifles patrolled the Birdtown neighborhood on June 6.
A SWAT team and 30 heavily armed police officers from six departments responded to what turned out to be a false alarm near the intersection of Lark Street andΒ Madison Avenue in Lakewood Thursday night.
Madison Avenue wasΒ shut down after what appeared to an armed standoff with police, starting at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.Β
But at around 8:15 p.m., police disbanded and told reporters that the call had been unwarranted.
Mayor Summers said that a man called about his sister and three children, who he believed were being held hostage by her boyfriend.Β
It turned out to be a false alarm.
At least 30 police officers responded to the scene and closed traffic between Magee and Robin streets for about an hour.
