Ariel Castro Commits Suicide
Sources say the man who held three women captive and raped them hanged himself in prison.
The man who held three women captive for a decade in his Cleveland home killed himself in prison Tuesday night.
According to our partners at WEWS Channel 5, Ariel Castro hanged himself using a bed sheet. He was in protective custody at the State Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, where he was to be checked every half hour.
Castro previously accepted a plea deal for a life sentence with no parole, plus 1,000 years, for holding Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight and Gina DeJesus captive and raping them.
“These degenerate molesters are cowards," said Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty. "They con and capture vulnerable children. This man couldn’t take, for even a month, a small portion of what he had dished out for more than a decade."
