Bicycle Lanes Being Added Along Madison Avenue
The City of Lakewood is in the process of striping bicycle lanes along Madison Avenue
Bike lanes have finally arrived on Madison Avenue.
Crews were on Madison Thursday afternoon and evening laying down stencils for the bicycle images and the innovative small, diagonal marks stripes called “Door Zone Markings” inside the bike lane which indicate to bicycle riders of opening driver side doors.
Another feature the new Madison Avenue bike lanes will have are called "Intersection Crossings." These dotted markings extend the bike lanes through intersections to reinforce that bicyclists have priority over turning vehicles or vehicles entering the street. Bike Cleveland calls this a "particularly useful feature for new cyclists who may be unsure where they should be."

“These additional striping measures will help raise awareness of cyclists on our roadways, and more importantly, will create safer conditions for both cyclists and motorists on Madison,” Bryce Sylvester, Senior City Planner for Lakewood told Bike Cleveland.
