Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Eleven East Cleveland police officers, including both current and former officers, have been indicted for charges related to civil rights violations and public corruption, adding to the previous five officers who were charged with similar crimes in the past few months. Investigations include crimes such as theft, bribery, assault, and unlawful conduct while on duty. (Cleveland 19)
  2. Lindsay Davis, a Lakewood native and national heart health advocate, continues her work to raise awareness of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and advocate for laws that ensure young athletes have a fighting chance if affected by a cardiac incident. Her efforts led to the passage of Lindsay’s Law in Ohio. Under the law, students and youth athletes as well as their parents and coaches are required to receive guidelines and training to learn about the warning signs of sudden cardiac arrest. They are also required to learn how to perform CPR and use an AED. (cleveland.com)
  3. Poppy, a new restaurant in nearby Cleveland, is set to open this weekend in a 115-year-old building on Larchmere Boulevard. The restaurant, led by chefs Jill Vedaa and Jessica Parkison of Salt in Lakewood, offers a menu with global influences that includes dishes divided up into vegetable, fish, and meat categories and features a mahogany fireplace, exposed wood beams, and original wood flooring.
