Good Boys Take Over Foster Pool For Lakewood Dog Swim

Summer isn't allowed to end until the best boys get a swim.

LAKEWOOD, OH — On a muggy, sweltering Tuesday, a group of dogs and their owners invaded the Charles Foster Pool for the 14th Annual Dog Swim. Pups and good boys of all breeds dove into the crystal blue water, snatched tennis balls, leaped off the diving board, and generally hung out with their tongues out.

The event cost $8 and benefited the Friends of the Lakewood Dog Park (FLDP). Karen Karp, the dog swim coordinator (and a Patch contributor), said the event was another success. Her team doesn't yet have attendee numbers, because they were too busy registering and (German) shepherding dogs in and out of the pool area.

Karp told Patch they were originally expecting about 175 people, and their dogs, to attend. Given the sweaty heat wave currently gripping Northeast Ohio, it's possible even more people turned out to take a dip.

LakewoodAlive was on-hand, at the event, handing out treats to the best boys and promoting the upcoming Spooky Pooch Parade. That dog-centric march will happen October 20.

As for Karp, her attention will turn now to this weekend's Lakewood Community Festival, which she's helping organize. Known commonly as the last gasp of summer in Lakewood, the party will start at 11 am. on September 8. Be sure to check it out.
