Guilty Plea Entered In Crash That Killed 2 Lakewood Teenagers
Alejandro Mercado and Maximus Close were killed when a car hit their vehicle in February.
LAKEWOOD, OH — Selena Colon pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide for causing a car crash that killed two Lakewood teenagers, Alejandro Mercado and Maximus Close.
Close and Mercado, both 19, were recent Lakewood High School graduates. They were driving on Clifton Boulevard when a car hit them while driving 90 mph, police said in February 2021. Both teenagers died at the scene of the crash. A third teenager was hurt because of the crash.
Colon was later determined to be the driver, court documents said.

Colon was drunk while driving, Fox 8 reported. She pleaded guilty Thursday to two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide, one count of aggravated vehicular assault, and one count of driving under the influence.
She faces up to 25 years in prison. She will be sentenced on Oct. 6.
