Lakewood Mayor, Michael Summers answers questions regarding Lakewood's role in the upcoming Republican National Convention.

The Republican National Convention will be here soon, and the City of Lakewood will be helping out. Lakewood Mayor Mike Summers has shared the city's RNC plans on the Lakewood Community Facebook Page:

SUMMERS' TIME with Mayor Michael P. Summers:
Q: what does the Republican National Convention mean for Lakewood and what is our community doing to prepare?
The Mayor: Lakewood will directly support the RNC in several ways:
1) Our Police force will loan 5 bike officers, several SWAT surveillance team members, and two motorcycle officers to support Cleveland’s efforts. In all, 3,200 Police officers will be protecting the event, 2,700 from outside Cleveland.
2) Our Fire Fighter/Paramedics will play support roles for the worse case scenarios, as well as participate in bomb squad and hazardous material teams. Additionally, our firefighters are prepared to address protest techniques designed to clog major transportation arteries.
3) We are preparing for the possibility of several high profile events in our community. Details are not known to us at this point in time, and probably will not be known until much closer to the event.
4) 15 local entertainment businesses have applied for extended hour permits. Only one, Pier W, has a high probably of hosting such an event.
5) 11 states delegations are being housed to the West of us. Our opportunity is to convince these delegations to stop in Lakewood on their way to and from the convention.
6) Locally, our public Safety forces will maintain strong patrol presence. We have purposefully not scheduled any special events during RNC week. All special operations, including detective units, will focus on high visibility patrol. Judge Carrol is reducing his court docket to the bare minimum in order to not tie up our police officers. We will strengthen our patrol in our parks during RNC.
7) Our Public safety forces have thought through a very wide variety of unusual circumstances that we might experience. The have developed plans for each situation.
-Mike Summers, Mayor
