Kauffman Park Plans Take Big Step Forward
City's planning commission gives the proposal a thumbs-up.
The plans to transform the underutilized Kauffman Park into a destination in the center of town have taken another big step forward.Β
The cityβs planning commission conceptually approved the Friends of Kauffman Park proposal, that will be incorporated into the cityβs plan to improve parks across the city.
A splash pad, an amphitheater and public art are just a few of the initial ideas planned for the park.

βThis is a big deal because it marks the end of the planning process and the beginning of our being able to make improvements,β said volunteer Dan Alaimo in an email. βWith the Master Plan, we can start applying for grants and other money that is available.β
Alaimo also gave credit to the other organizers, city hall, the planning commission, and β in particular β members of the LakewoodAlive Design Committee.

Bryan Evans, a nearby resident who is organizing the effort, recently said the scope of the proposal is largely dependent on the funding that can be raised for the parkβs redevelopment.
