Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- On Friday afternoon, Mar. 10, Lakewood police officers and firefighters found an 8-month-old boy unresponsive at a Lakewood apartment complex located at 11811 Lake Avenue. The baby was later pronounced dead at the Lakewood Emergency Room. The investigation is ongoing. (Cleveland 19)
- A Lakewood resident wrote a Cleveland.com opinion piece that criticized Gov. Mike DeWine's "photo-op" at Lakewood High School (LHS) when he announced a $68 million grant for school safety. The K-12 School Safety Grant Program can be used for equipment such as cameras and electronic door locks, but the writer argues that DeWine is not addressing the root of the problem, which is gun laws. Last year, DeWine signed Senate Bill 215, which allows adults to carry concealed weapons without permits, training, or a background check. The writer concluded the opinion piece by stating that DeWine's LHS visit had nothing to do with making Lakewood students safe. (Subscription: Cleveland.com)
- The City of Lakewood told residents not to be alarmed if they see Lakewood Police and Lakewood Firefighters at Lakewood High School next week. The departments are performing training exercises at the school during spring break from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. starting Mar. 13 and running through Mar. 16. (City of Lakewood via Twitter)
