- Lakewood-based Malley's Chocolates has sold a minority interest in the company to Promise Holdings LLC and a group of Cleveland investors. CEO Mike Malley confirmed the sale but stated that there are no immediate plans to expand into another city; he also noted the company is looking at making improvements at its existing plant. Malley's Chocolates was founded by Mike Malley's grandfather, Albert, on Madison Avenue near Lewis Drive and has gained a reputation for high-quality candy. (Subscription: Cleveland.com)
- Two Lakewood eateries made Cleveland Magazine's list of Best Black-Owned Restaurants. Southern Cafe on Detroit Avenue received recognition for its "innovative twists on traditional soul food," such as buttermilk fried chicken and creamy grits. The Vegan Doughnut Co., also on Detroit Avenue, boasts all-vegan donuts — the first shop to do so in the state of Ohio. (Cleveland Magazine)
