Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- Yesterday, Feb. 6, a Lakewood woman was sentenced after pleading guilty to driving a Hawken School bus drunk on the highway. Diene Hines was convicted of OVI and sentenced to probation for one year, obtain an alcohol and/or substance abuse assessment, and obtain a mental health assessment. She also lost her license for one year. (Cleveland 19)
- Two Lakewood bands were chosen to compete in the Tri-C High School Rock Off's Final Exam on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Out of ten bands competing in the second Rock Off performance round on Feb. 4, Blaire Blades and The Backstabbers (Westlake & Lakewood) and Subliners (University, Hudson, Lakewood, Bay & Revere) earned two of the four spots to move on to the finals. The winning band on Feb. 25 will receive the title of “Best Band in The Land,” $3,000 cash, and $250 for their high school music program. The winning band will also receive the opportunity to perform at a Live Nation or House of Blues Cleveland concert. (Cleveland.com)
- Co-Author Brandi Larsen will speak at Lakewood Public Library's "Meet the Author" on Wednesday, Feb. 8, with Daniella Mestyanek Young dropping in by Zoom. The authors will speak about "Uncultured," Daniella Mestyanek Young's real-life story about escaping the Children of God cult and more. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. in the Main Library Auditorium.
