Lincoln Mines Attracts Hundreds of Minecraft and Gaming Enthusiasts to Harding Middle School

The second annual Lincoln Mines event attracted hundreds and raised money for the Lincoln PTA over the weekend.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics were all on display at Saturday's 2nd Annual Lincoln Mines event at Harding Middle School and the kids had a blast.

Around 440 people attended the event this year and like last year, every floor of Harding Middle School was utilized for hands-on gaming and learning programs.

The three floors were divided into rooms dedicated to Minecraft play, video gaming, coding, Legos and a MARS Rover demo. The gym was home to an obstacle course, Minecraft-themed crafting and COSI from Columbus was on hand with demos and hands-on learning kiosks.

Gameplay wasn't limited to Minecraft, video games of all types were provided by Games Done Legit with big screen projection monitors for group play. In addition to gaming, there was a Nerf gun target range, Legos and coding stations where parents and kids could learn coding together.

Missy Toms, one of the coordinators of the event told Patch that the format was changed slightly this year to a mostly "drop-in" basis, with fewer scheduled activities. This format gave parents and kids more freedom to explore other areas and activities without worrying about missing a scheduled event.

Money raised from Lincoln Mines will be used to support the Lincoln PTA. Last year, proceeds were used to acquire new Chromebooks for the classrooms.
