  1. Pins and Needles, a Lakewood staple of almost 100 years that is located inside Mahall's, is forced to start over after parts of the ceiling collapsed due to a burst pipe during the week between Christmas and New Year's. Dennis Tvrdik, director of Pins and Needles, said walking into the flooded store was like walking "into a waterpark; it was like a waterfall." According to Tvrdik, the winter storm is to blame for the burst pipe. Jospeh Pavlick, Owner of Mahall's, said it could be weeks before it is back to normal, but he is hopeful because the community has been "excellent." (Cleveland 19 News)
  2. The Cuyahoga County Planning Commission has new research indicating Cleveland and surrounding suburbs, like Lakewood, should rezone their transit corridors to encourage transit-oriented development. The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority's Director of Planning Maribeth Feke said, "One of the key barriers to transit-oriented development is zoning, land use, parking, building heights, setbacks — all the stuff that RTA doesn’t control." Transit-oriented development would promote pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly development that is compact and mixed-use. (Mass Transit)
  3. National heart health advocate Lindsay Davis of Lakewood has been "incredibly emotional" seeing Damar Hamlin's collapse and situation because it is similar to her own. The former Miss Ohio was an athlete while growing up until she collapsed one day and found out she had a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Davis has dedicated her life to raising awareness of sudden cardiac arrest and helped pass Senate Bill 252, also known as Lindsay's Law after Davis, in 2017. (WJW FOX 8 News Cleveland)
