- Yesterday, Dec. 30, Cuyahoga County officials released the identity of the deceased man who was recovered from Lake Erie on Dec. 29. The victim was identified as Adam Harry, 33, of Lakewood, who was reported missing to Lakewood police on Nov. 17. As of Friday evening, his cause of death was not released by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. (Cleveland 19)
- State Sen. Nickie Antonio, of Lakewood, will become the leader of the Democrats in the state
Senate on Jan. 3. She will become the first openly gay minority politician to serve in the role, as a minority leader of Ohio Senate. Antonio has held a lot of 'firsts,' including the first openly gay member elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2010, the first woman to hold the Senate District 23 seat in 2018, and the first member of the LGBTQ community elected to the Ohio Senate. (Subscription: Cleveland.com) - On Dec. 29, Bill Hixson of Hixson's Inc. in Lakewood, known affectionately as "Mr. Christmas," passed away at the age of 93. Hixson and his store, at 14125 Detroit Ave., were a "staple of the Northeast Ohio community." (WKYC)
