  1. Yesterday, Nov. 30, the City of Lakewood announced its first official comprehensive Snow & Ice Control Plan. Beginning today, Dec. 1, a new pilot project will provide up to five gallons of rock salt at no cost to Lakewood residents at five locations throughout the City. The residential salt program is to help keep Lakewood sidewalks safe during the winter. The Snow & Ice Control Plan also includes new snow removal priority routes and maps, updates to city signage, and additions to its communications protocols. (City of Lakewood)
  2. The City of Lakewood is negotiating with a homeowner about the purchase of 12984 Lake Ave., a $1.2 million home on a 1.64-acre lot. According to Lakewood Director of Planning Shawn Leininger, the property would open opportunities to help the City's aging 100-year-old sewer system due to its location near the Lake Avenue interceptor tunnel. Mayor Meghan George said, "We're hopeful that we'll be able to acquire the Lake Avenue property to meet the needs and requirements of IWWIP (Integrated Wet Weather Improvement Plan)." 3. On Nov. 29, State Rep. Michael Skindell (D-Lakewood) introduced HB 208, also called the Ohio Fairness Act, in the Ohio House Commerce & Labor Committee. The bill would provide anti-discrimination protections to LGBTQ Ohioans by changing any part of the Ohio Revised Code regarding discrimination to include "sex," "sexual orientation," and "gender identity or expression." If the bill is passed, existing religious exemptions would still be part of the law. (Ohio Capital-Journal)
