LAKEWOOD, OH β€” Norse mythology and rip-roaring comedy will collide in the Beck Center's "The Real Valkyries of Valhalla."

The second production of the 2021-2022 Youth Theater Season will be the original comedy written and directed by Rachel Spence. "Valkyries" will debut Dec. 10 and run through Dec. 19 in Studio Theater.

β€œI am honored and delighted to share The Real Valkyries of Valhalla with audiences. These 26 preteen actors are amazing. In this one-act comedy, we portray many of the Norse Mythology legends and stories with some actors playing multiple roles. We keep the myths intact but give them a fun twist. Many people know Loki, Thor and Odin for the Marvel movies but our play is based on ancient myths," Spence said.

"There are songs, dances and even a hilarious magic act. While the characters include giants, dwarves, animals and gods, these myths tell stories about the human condition from the moment of creation to the end of the world. I am extremely proud of these Beck Center actors ages 6- 12 years old," Spence added.

A student matinee of the show will be held Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Performances open to the public will be held Dec. 10, Dec. 11 and Dec. 17, Dec. 18 at 7:30 p.m., and Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 at 3 p.m.

Tickets for the shows go on sale Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adults and seniors and $10 for children and students (18 and younger). There is also a $3 per person ticket fee. Seating will be limited for these performances. There will also be a live-streaming virtual option on select days for out-of-town guests and family of the cast and crew.
