- According to a survey by the Human Rights Campaign, Ohio is leading the nation in LGBTQIA-friendly policy and legislation. The index investigated 506 cities across America to see which had the best nondiscrimination laws and policies. Of the eight Ohio cities surveyed, all scored the national average. Columbus, Cleveland, and Akron earned perfect scores. (WOSU Public Media)
- The Lakewood Project, a student-based rock orchestra, is ready to welcome you to their "Space Jam" session. On Jan. 21 at 8:30 p.m., students will be performing space-related songs in honor of the beloved 90's movie. The program includes hits by David Bowie, Elton John, Dua Lipa, Europe, Queen, The Weeknd, and Train. You can see the amazing show at the Lakewood Civic Auditorium. (Subscription: cleveland.com)
- An increasing number of residents are calling local police for issues related to mental illness. The influx began during the winter months when the Lakewood Police Department noticed the number of mental illness-related calls rose sharply. They are currently receiving up to two dozen calls per week. Many officers are now training with the Crisis Intervention Team to learn the best way to handle the calls. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
