Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Kenneth Velez Struck and Killed on I-90 in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, OH — Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper, Kenneth Velez was struck and killed by a vehicle along a stretch of Interstate 90 in Lakewood, Ohio around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Trooper Velez was struck outside of his vehicle while conducting traffic enforcement in the westbound lane of I-90 near McKinley Ave.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Trooper Kenneth Velez was killed as a result of the crash.

“This is a tragedy for the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Department of Public Safety,” said Colonel Paul Pride, Ohio State Highway Patrol Superintendent. “Our prayers go out to the Velez family during this difficult time.”

Trooper Velez, 48, was a graduate of the 118th Academy class in November 1989. He is survived by his three children.
