Photos: New Green Space Coming to Madison Avenue
The City of Lakewood knocked down an abandoned nuisance property on Madison Ave. and will plant grass where it once stood.
LAKEWOOD, OH — A new stretch of green space just west of Madison Park is coming to Madison Avenue — just as soon as the grass grows.
The City of Lakewood recently demolished the nuisance property at 13351-13355 Madison Ave. and plans to seed the empty lot for now. The city does not own the property, so the future of the space is currently undetermined.
The property at one time had apartments on the second floor and office space on the first level, however, the property has been vacant and neglected for years.

At the most recent inspection, the property had been cited with over 25 building code violations including violations for for being "not structurally sound." Additionally, severe mold was discovered in the basement (see photos).
Records show that the property is owned by K&S Development in Olmsted Falls and the city made multiple attempts to contact the owner without success.

Due to the owner's failure to bring the building into compliance and its advanced state of dilapidation and abandonment, the city moved forward with demolition.
