Police Diffuse Threat at Lakewood High School

A tenth-grader who was sent home for misbehaving Friday afternoon may face criminal charges after he threatened to return to the school and “go off.”

Despite some rumors, there was no weapon involved in the incident.

Principal Bill Wagner said the boy was sent home after he “threw a temper tantrum” just after 2 p.m.

“As security was escorting the boy off campus, he made a threatening comment about coming back to the school and going off,” Wagner said, adding that that student went into a friend's house in “close proximity” to the school instead of going home. 

“Since the threat was not deemed credible, yet was made loudly, in anger and in the presence of others, administration called the police to help assure he did not return to campus.”

Since the student was still near the school — and police had not arrived yet — school officials held the bells for the 8^th- to 9^th-period class change for about five minutes until officers arrived at the house.  

The school did not initiate lock-down procedures, Wagner said, and there was no weapon involved.

It’s not known whether the boy has been charged.

Sgt. Tim Schad said that no details were available on the case, noting that the incident is “still an active investigation.”
