Residents Invited to Partake in 'Bike with a Leader' Ride on June 15

Lakewood City Council and County Leaders Host Guided Bike Ride Across Cuyahoga Greenways Site

Lakewood, OH – Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to join Lakewood City Council members, County leaders, and Bike Lakewood on a guided bike ride as part of the County’s “Bike with a Leader” series.

The “Bike with a Leader” series aims to provide residents with the opportunity to engage in physical activity with their elected leaders while also learning about their city’s dedication to providing safe bike routes and trails for year-round enjoyment. Lakewood recently adopted an Active Transportation Plan that envisions a complete and connected network for people walking and biking that provides year-round access to local amenities, resources, and the regional bicycle and pedestrian network.

The ride will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Madison Park (13201 Madison Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107). The route will travel through Lakewood on streets identified in the Active Transportation Plan for new or improved bike lanes and will be roughly 5 miles. A map of the route is attached.

The ride will travel on Bunts Rd, which is planned for major biking and pedestrian improvements, as well as Lake Ave which is part of the Cuyahoga Greenways network, which is a system of existing and future trails and bikeways that aims to expand opportunities for commuting, recreation and exercise. Riders will learn about how these sites came to fruition, as well as future planned connections and trails.

“The Active Transportation and Safe Streets Plans formed out of a year and a half process involving community stakeholders, public input, and multiple administration departments including Public Safety, Public Works, and our Planning Department who did a stellar job pulling it all together," said Council President Sarah Kepple. "We’re grateful to all who contributed and for this fun opportunity for the community to connect with their Councilmembers and learn about the exciting vision laid out in the plans.”
