The Root Cafe Transforms into MSNBC Broadcast Studio for Primary Coverage

A popular Lakewood restaurant will host national news network MSNBC this weekend for live coverage of the Ohio primary election developments

LAKEWOOD, Ohio β€” A favorite vegetarian eatery among Lakewood residents, The Root Cafe is serving up something far departed from their famed vegan breakfast burritos this weekend: live news broadcasts, to be exact.

National news network MSNBC set up camp in the famed organic cafe Friday, and they’ll be broadcasting from there all weekend as they report on politics just days before the much-anticipated Ohio primary election this Tuesday.

Technical manager Joe Raznik told WKYC the broadcasts would begin at the crack of dawn and go late into the afternoon. He added that national reporter Chris Jansing would be among those broadcasting from the Lakewood restaurant turned news studio.

The Root Cafe’s staff said they were pleased by MSNBC’s presence and that they would continue business as usual by serving customers without interruption during the news network’s stay.

Cafe customer Jim O’Bryan said on the restaurant’s Facebook page he was impressed with the business’ ability to stay on top of customers even with the flurry of excitement.

β€œThey never missed a beat,” he said in the post, where he congratulated the staff for a job well done.

The makeshift TV studio will be at The Root Cafe until Sunday afternoon, when they will relocate to the Westin hotel for more election coverage that will begin on Monday.
