Solar Panels Could Soon Be A Possibility For Ohio Condo Owners
Legislation allowing solar panels at condominiums is winding its way through the Ohio General Assembly.

LAKEWOOD, OH β Newly passed legislation could allow solar panel installation at condo properties throughout Ohio.
State Sen. Nickie Antonio, a Democrat from Lakewood, announced Wednesday that the Ohio Senate passed Substitute Senate Bill 61, which strengthens consumer protections for condo owners and updates solar panel laws.
βIn Ohio, solar energy is one of the fastest growing sectors, providing increased employment opportunities and supporting local supply chains,β Antonio said in a statement. βHomes with solar power systems are more attractive to many potential buyers as well, leading to increased property values and bolstering community growth."

The bill stops homeowners associations (HOA) from blocking the installation of solar panels, unless the HOA is responsible for the maintenance of the roof or area where the panels will be installed.
Substitute Senate Bill 61 was joint-sponsored by state Sen. Louis Blessing, a Republican from Colerain Township. Antonio's office said the legislation passed unanimously out of the Senate Local Government and Elections Committee. Her office added the bill had "no opponents."
