Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Speed tables will be installed on Clarence Avenue this week. City officials say they first try to educate about the posted speed limit and increase police presence in the neighborhood, such as the section between Detroit Avenue and Franklin Boulevard, before adding in speed tables. Residents can submit a report to the city about speeding on their streets here. (Cleveland 19 News)
  2. Keep Lakewood Beautiful has announced its 2022 Beautiful Home Awards winners. The seven honorees are Harry and Patricia Johnson (Clarence Avenue), Bertha Young (Clifton Boulevard), Tatlija and Fehim Coralic (Concord Drive), Jon and Kali Portz (Elmwood Avenue), Ronald Manner (Lewis Drive), Leahanna and Libero Puccini (Summit Avenue), and Joseph and Elizabeth Bratko (Wayne Avenue). The winning households received a plaque to commemorate the achievement on their homes and were recognized at a Lakewood City Council meeting recently. (Subscription: Cleveland.com)
  3. On Wednesday evening, Gormley's Pub in nearby Rocky River offered sample tastings of 47-year-old Midleton Very Rare whiskey to 20 lucky guests as part of a fundraiser. The bottle of whiskey, which is valued at $50,000, was delivered to the Irish pub via police escort earlier this week. Proceeds from the tastings will benefit the Malachi House, a Cleveland-based organization that that “seeks to preserve human dignity for terminally ill individuals” by providing for basic needs.
