Former Cleveland Brown, Ohio State and St. Edward Alum, Tom Cousineau to Be Honored at OSU vs Indiana Game

Ohio State and the National Football Foundation will jointly honor Cousineau, a 2016 College Football Hall of Fame inductee.

COLUMBUS, OH — The Ohio State University and The National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame plan to jointly honor two-time All-American Tom Cousineau with an NFF Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute during the Ohio State / Indiana game on Saturday.

Cousineau came to Ohio State from Lakewood St. Edward in 1975 and went on to have a stellar college career playing for Coach Woody Hayes. He later became the no.1 overall pick in the NFL Draft in 1979.

The website elevenwarriors.com reports that the decision to honor Cousineau at Ohio Stadium during the Indiana game is part of the NFF's Hall of Fame On-Campus Salute, presented by Fidelity Investments. The Salute recognizes each inductee at their alma mater and presents them with a plaque on the field. The plaque will then remain at Ohio State.

Cousineau was tapped to be a member of the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2016 in January, he said he was "stunned" to be selected for the award.

"I am humbled. And I am truly honored to be a part of this Hall of Fame class,” Cousineau said then. “I know there are so many great, great players who will never see the College Football Hall of Fame. It is my understanding that it is really tough to get consensus with so many great players on the ballot, so the fact I have been elected into the Hall of Fame is a testament to the incredible teammates I was fortunate to play alongside and just wonderful news to receive. I am very appreciative and thankful for this honor."
“Tom Cousineau was one of the most dominant linebackers in Big Ten history,” NFF President and CEO Steve Hatchell said in a release. “He left Ohio State as the school’s leader in nearly every tackling category, and we are thrilled to honor him in front of the Buckeye faithful at Ohio Stadium.”

Cousineau amassed 569 career tackles and ranks second all-time in Ohio State history. He still holds six school records including single-season tackles and solo tackles during his senior season when he was named team MVP. During his time at Ohio State, he led the Buckeyes to three Big Ten championships, three top 12 finishes and four bowl berths.
