Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- The St. Patrick's Day parade in nearby Cleveland will start at 1:04 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 17 between East 18th Street and Superior Avenue and end at Public Square. The parade will include first responders, Irish organizations, marching bands, floats, and more! There is a chance of rain and windy conditions on Friday, but the temperature will be milder, with highs in the lower 50s. (News 5 Cleveland)
- Sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade Lakewood students wrote “Dear Ukraine” poems during Lakewood Public Library and Lakewood City School District's poetry workshops. Harding Middle School social studies and language arts teacher Kevin Spooner said, "The students are learning about their place in our global community and the plight of what’s happening in Ukraine." Harding Middle School sixth-grader Leelu Baxter's poem and a group poem by Spooner's advanced social studies fifth-period class are on display at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. - A dance education production of the ballet “Cinderella” presented by Beck Center for the Arts will appear on weekends from Mar. 25 through Apr. 2 on the Music and Creative Arts Therapy Building’s Oatey Stage. The production began in 2020 but was canceled due to the pandemic shutdown. Now, Associate Director of Dance Education Melanie Szucs, who is choreographing the ballet, is excited to see the project reach completion, saying, "Some of the older girls that are juniors or seniors now started it when they were in middle school or early high school. So it was a good opportunity for them to revisit what they started." (cleveland.com)
