Cleveland Police Officer Killed In Car Crash; Police Arrest Suspect
A white Toyota Camry hit and killed the officer and then fled the scene. Police located the vehicle in Lorain and arrested a suspect.

ROCKY RIVER, OH β A Cleveland police officer was struck and killed early Tuesday morning while directing traffic on I-90 West. A white Camry hit Officer David Fahey, 39, and then fled the scene going west. Police located the vehicle in Lorain and have arrested a suspect.
Police released images of the car to the public, hoping it would lead to the arrest of the person who hit Fahey. Eventually, police located the Camry on E.31st Street in Lorain. Cleveland Police say they are questioning a man about Fahey's death. Channel 19 is reporting that the man is Israel Alvarez, 44.
Fahey was struck while direct traffic on Tuesday morning. He was rushed to MetroHealth and was pronounced dead at the hospital. At a press conference on Tuesday morning, Mayor Frank Jackson said the entire city's thoughts are with the Fahey family at this time.

Police released images of the Camry, hoping that someone might be able to identify the vehicle. The car below was the one found in Lorain.


In a tragic twist of fate, the site of the officer-involved crash is only a mile or so away from where State Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth Velez was struck and killed while conducting traffic.

Fahey was directing traffic because of an accident involving a fire truck that had closed I-90 westbound in Rocky River.
The Ohio Department of Transportation says I-90 West has now been reopened to traffic.
