LAKEWOOD, OH — On Monday, residents and businesses in Lakewood will take a moment to honor the life and legacy of civil rights icon Martin Luther King Jr.
As a federal holiday, MLK Day could also affect the hours of government offices, libraries, public transportation, garbage pickup and other services in Lakewood.
Before you head out, here’s a roundup of what’s open and what’s closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in our city:

- Lakewood Public Library will be open.
- Lakewood Schools will be closed.
- There will be no trash or recycling collected on Monday. Instead, residents who have their refuse picked-up on Monday should place their garbage outside on Tuesday.
A special Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration was organized by the Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, St. Vincent Charity Medical Center and University Hospitals. The program featured a speech from Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, musical performances, an interfaith video and more.
