Winter Storm In Lakewood: Snow Parking Ban, Sidewalk Shoveling

If 4 or more inches of snow falls, parking bans go into effect immediately on certain Lakewood streets.

LAKEWOOD, OH β€” As much of northern Ohio grapples with heavy snowfall, Lakewood officials reminded residents that snow parking bans are automatically implemented on certain streets.

"Residents are reminded that vehicles may not be parked on any street in the City for more than 24 hours without being used in a usual and ordinary manner. When its snows, the Lakewood Police Department may ticket and tow snowed-in vehicles," the city said on its website.

Residents and businesses are also responsible for shoveling sidewalks in front of their properties. Snowfall must be cleared from those paths within 24 hours of snow stopping.

How Plowing Works in Lakewood

Lakewood officials prioritize certain streets during snow events, according to the city website. Plows will first clear and heavily salt main roads, secondary main roads, bridges and hills. Residential streets are the second priority and get slightly less salt.

The city's third priority is "intersection radius clearing" with plows making several passes to open and clear streets where cars have been moved. The fourth priority is to haul heavy snow away from congested areas and intersections.

Drivers should give plows plenty of space on roads. For more information on the city's approach to winter storms, visit the snow and ice removal tab.
