Around the Patch: Pools Open, Budget Cuts and Fashion

We like to keep you hip to what's going on in Mentor, but we also like to let you know what's going on in other cities, too. Here is today's Around the Patch:

1. It's almost summer, and for several cities, Memorial Day weekend marks the start of pool season. The Beachwood pool opens Saturday, and here's what's in store.

2. Each week, the Patches feature Whiz Kids from area schools. The Cleveland Heights Whiz Kid of the week is senior Evan Lanese and he's got some pretty special plans after he graduates.

3. Cuts are coming to the Westlake school district, . It's a sign of the times, and of the governor's budget.

5. The University of Akron will hold classes at a starting this fall. Only a few dozen students will be in the classes to start, but officials expect hundreds to be on the campus within five years.
