• Birders across Lake County take part in national Christmas Count (news-herald.com) — Birders fanned out from Mentor’s Headlands Beach and Mentor Marsh today for the annual Christmas Bird Count, tracking how local bird populations are changing. Organizers say Mentor Marsh is among Ohio’s best birding spots, and they’re inviting residents to join monthly Sunday walks at Veterans Park in Mentor and log sightings with the eBird app. 
• Mentor man plans fundraising run across Ohio to honor memory of his mother (news-herald.com) — A Mentor native, ultrarunner Joe Baur, is planning a spring attempt to run the entire 326-mile Ohio to Erie Trail to raise money in memory of his mother, who died of breast cancer. After an ankle injury forced him to postpone an October try, he’s now focused on healing, lining up sponsors, and bringing more attention to cancer’s impact on families like those in Mentor.
