Lake Catholic Class of 2011: Once a Cougar, Always a Cougar
More than 200 seniors received their diploma
As one of Lake Catholic's biggest graduating classes filled the stage, the students beamed smiles at each other and at their parents in the crowd.
They filed in — boys wearing green, girls wearing white — and adjusted their tassels accordingly. Two hundred twenty-two students faced their families and their future. The ceremony was held in Mentor High School's Fine Arts Center.
Lake Catholic President Sal Miroglotta said the class broke many records, including earning $14.4 million in scholarships, 20,400-plus hours of community service and even nine calamity days.

"There will be other records to break in friendship, dignity, honor and effort," Miroglotta said. "We are so proud to call you alumni."
The keynote speaker was 1981 alum Norm Kotoch, who told the student that three things will remain constant in their lives: faith, family and friends.

"Faith will help you through tough moments," Kotoch said. "You can learn from your family that nothing of value is achieved without sacrifice. You'll never lose your Lake Catholic connection. These graduates will be a sources of strength and laughter for years to come."
He added, "Once a cougar, always a cougar."
The class valedictorians were Maggie Skoch and Liz Galko, both of whom were National Honor Society members and involved in many school clubs and activities.
Instead of having the valedictorians give a speech, the students had to try out to speak. The graduates heard from Christine Jablonski, Maggie Skoch and Elizabeth Kohl.
After all 222 names were called, the graduates wrapped their arms around one another and sang the alma mater one last time.
Once they walked outside, 222 hats sailed into the sky, making yet another sea of green and white.
