Council can vote to extend, alter STERIS's tax incentive grant Tuesday

Mentor City Council can vote to extend and alter a tax incentive grant offered to the city's biggest employer Tuesday.
Council agreed to give a grant in 2010 when it began building a Customer Solution Center that created 239 jobs and cost $11 million.
In December, STERIS announced its latest project -- . The facility will build components for its sterilization products that will be shipped to other assembly locations.

The new site will also add 75 new jobs to the company's payroll.
Instead of offering STERIS a new grant for its latest project, the city is offering to amend its current grant.

If Council votes for it, STERIS's grant will be extended two more years to 2022.
Overall, STERIS will receive $1.3 million in tax incentive grants during the next 10 years (or $135,000 per year) for adding $13.6 million to its payroll, according to the proposed legislation.
Also at the Council meeting Tuesday:
- The Council can vote on a new $193,583 ambulance for the fire department
- Council can approve the Mentor Police Department joining a new, regional crash reconstruction unit with Eastlake, Kirtland Hills, Wickliffe, Willoughby Hills, Willowick and Waite Hill.
The Council meeting begins 7 p.m. at . However, Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. for a work session.
