Mentor Police, K-9 Titan Track Down Fugitive

A Mentor officer suffered some minor injuries while chasing Lawrence Seghetti II

It took three tries but Mentor Police and K-9 Officer Titan found a fleeing fugitive early Monday morning.

Mentor officers had been searching for 30-year-old Lawrence Seghetti II because he had a warrant issued for his arrest from the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said.

Officers first spotted Seghetti on Sunday evening while he was driving on Munson Road near the intersection with Meldon. When police signalled for Seghetti to stop, he parked his car and ran away, Allen said.

Officers chased him on foot to the Harbor Run complex. During the chase, an officer hurt his knee while trying to scale a fence, Allen said.

When they reached the complex, Titan was called to the area to search for Seghetti but the dog did not smell him out.

The officers and Titan then searched the area around Meldon Drive, where Seghetti lives, but they did not find him.

Finally, at 4 a.m. Monday, police spotted Seghetti coming into his home.

With the permission of Seghetti's roommate, police also entered the house.

Titan tracked Seghetti down to his bedroom but Seghetti would not come out, Allen said. Police then knocked in the door and Titan bit Seghetti on his arm and thigh.

As a safety precaution, police took Seghetti to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord Township where he was treated for his bites and released.

Mentor Police charged Seghetti with a felony count of obstructing official business and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.

Seghetti is also being held on a warrant for the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
