Mentor Police Looks for Man Accused of Passing Fake Money

The department is warning businesses and consumers to take a look at their money as a result of counterfeit bills passed at Walmart

The Mentor Police Department warns businesses and consumers to check their money as a result of a report that a man has been passing fake $20 bills.

According to the department's Facebook page, an unknown man used multiple counterfeit bills during a trip last month to Walmart. Police posted a surveillance image of the man, who is believed to be a Black male about 6 feet tall and 180 pounds.

"The Mentor Police Department encourages all businesses and persons to check bills for counterfeit and call the police immediately. Please do not wait to make a report," the post reads. "Evidence can be lost in the time delay such as video footage, fingerprints and memory recollection."

Anybody with information on the man from Walmart is asked to contact Detective Zigman at 440-974-5763. The department will grant anonymity to callers.
