• Mentor City Council OKs bid for new mobile radios for fire department (news-herald.com) — Mentor City Council has approved spending nearly $180,000 on 27 new Motorola mobile radios to keep the city’s firefighters better connected and safer on emergency calls. The purchase replaces aging, unsupported units that have been failing at a worrying rate, and will equip all firefighters on the fire ground while shifting older radios into backup and special-event roles.
   

• Mentor girls basketball: Nina Rodriguez parlays passion for basketball into Division I scholarship (mahoningmatters.com) — Mentor guard Nina Rodriguez has turned her years with the Cardinals into a Division I basketball scholarship at Detroit Mercy, signing her letter of intent during a ceremony at Mentor. The senior standout, averaging over 17 points this season, plans to lead a young Mentor girls team to a deeper run in the Greater Cleveland Conference before heading off to major in exercise science.
