What is your favorite family holiday recipe?

Each week the Mentor Patch Moms Council answers a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council.

This week's question: Do you have a favorite Holiday family recipe and do you get your kids involved in making it?

One special treat my kids like is my chocolate truffles. They don't like to make them, they can get messy, but they sure like eating them. They are easy to make, but as I said, quite messy.

Chocolate Truffles
3-6 oz packages of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1-14 oz can of sweetened condensed milk
1 T vanilla

Melt the chips and stir in the condensed milk. Chill for 2 hours or until firm. Roll into 1" balls. Roll in coatings. You can roll in cocoa, powdered sugar, nuts, sprinkles or coconut.

We make Christmas Holly every year, which is like Rice Krispy treats, but with cornflakes and green food coloring.

When you add Red Hots candies for berries, it looks very festive! My kids love to help stir in the butter, marshmallows, and stick on the Red Hots. They also love
to eat it... Beware of green tongues!

Gloria Kilfoyle:

During Christmas vacation, even with all the new toys, children can easily get bored. So let them learn to cook. Just be sure there is an adult supervising the event.

Here is a very easy pita pizza recipe that my grandchildren enjoy making.

Pita Pizza

Ingredients:

1 whole pita

2 T. olive oil

1 jar pizza sauce- try for the natural kind- probably use about 2-3T-depends on how much the cook prefers

8 pieces pepperoni sliced thin (or amount the cook prefers)

1 T. Green peppers chopped

1 T. Onions chopped

Grated cheeses- such as parmesan or mozzarella- as much as you would like

Can use anything else you like- Just use your imagination

Procedure:

1. Turn on broiler- with adult help

2. Brush whole pita with olive oil

3. Spread on pizza sauce

4. Cover with toppings (peppers, onions, pepperoni, etc.)

5. Sprinkle with grated cheeses

6. Put on foil

7. Broil for 2-3 minutes- Watch closely- This is where an adult must help, especially to take out of the oven because it will be ho

Serves 2, but you can make as many as you want- just increase the ingredients
