Mutt Strut, Beatles Tribute & Battle of Bands: 5 Events in Mentor this Week

A Mutt Strut and battle of rockin' area bands are among the attractions in Mentor this week.
Here are five events going in Mentor the week of Aug. 4:
- Mentor Public Library is hosting a concert Wednesday night with a little help from its friends, Abbey Road, a Beatles tribute band. The group plays at the library's Read House (next to the main branch)Â from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
- The Lake Humane Society's Mutt Strut fundraiser for homeless animals is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Includes a 1-mile walk, contests and a "project ruffway" show of animals available for adoption. You can visit the Society's site to pre-register for the walk or donate.
- The James A. Garfield National Historic site brought back its "Behind the Ropes" tour a few early because of public demand. The tour aims to give visitors a close look at the artifacts within the Garfield home. It begins at 10 a.m. Saturday Aug. 10 and will be held on the second Saturday of each month. Reservations are required for the $15 tour and can be made by calling the site at 440-255-8722.
- The right to perform at Mentor CityFest is on the line for three area bands. The Battle of the Bands Competition is from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Mentor Ice Arena. The winner gets $500 in prizes and will perform at CityFest on Aug. 23. Admission for the battle is $2.
- There are five more Fridays of the Mentor Farmers Market. On Aug. 8, from 3 to 7 p.m., people can enjoy local vendors in the Civic Center parking lot. Get a glimpse of what the farmers market looks like here.
