One In Jail, One Hospitalized After Domestic Assault (Updated)

Police responded to Hallwood Manor Apartments early Friday morning for what was initially reported as a stabbing

A woman is in the hospital and a man is in jail after a domestic altercation shortly after midnight Friday in .

Police were called to the apartment for what was initially reported as a stabbing, Mentor Police Sgt. Robert Valley said.

The injured woman is 25 years old and lives in an apartment on the third floor of Building D where the domestic dispute took place. She was taken to Lake West Medical Center for injuries that weren't life threatening, Valley said.

Her hand was cut, Mentor Police Sgt. Michael Majernik said.

Her husband, 23, was arrested in a wooded area behind the apartment complex. Depending on what police find out, he could face assault charges.

Four police cruisers were parked in the apartment complex's lot early Friday morning and several officers were collecting evidence, talking to other tenants and taking photos of the scene.

No more additional information, including the names of the people inv olved, was provided at the scene.

Majernik said it was unlikely that more information would be released until Monday, when the husband will likely be arraigned in .
