Brentmoor students get a hands-on education as they learn about energy

The Center of Science and Industry, better known as COSI, visited Thursday.

Claire Hampel of COSI taught the students about the different ways people produce energy. The students helped her create energy from coal, uranium -- not really, don't worry -- wind and water to power her Segway.

Hampel also taught the kids about the potentially negative results of each form of energy. For example, nuclear power creates a lot of energy but it also creates waste; and water power may not make pollution but it could alter animals' habitats.

After the morning assembly with Hampel, each grade level was able to participate in several energy-themed experiments.
