USA Youth Olympic Hockey Team & Mentor Prospect Win First Game

Team USA wins 7-2 against host country Austria; face off with Canada is next

The USA Youth Olympic Hockey team, which includes , grabbed the upperhand quickly in its first game Saturday.

They scored two goals in the first 90 seconds against host country Austria on their way to a 7-2 win.

"It was a good way to start the tournament," said Ben Smith, head coach of the U.S. Youth Olympic Boys' Ice Hockey Team, to the USOC Press Box. "We started off very strong, but got a little disoriented as the game went on. Tomorrow we'll get back to square one against a tough team from Canada."

Shane Gersich, of Minnesota, was named Team USA's Player of the Game after he scored three goals, one of which Magyar assisted.

Magyar plays for the Cleveland Barons Midget Minor team and was the only Ohioan selected for the Olympic team.

Team USA's next game is today against Canada.
