Video: Saying Goodbye To Seekers Coffee House

The coffee house closed forever on February 29; owner encourages people to support the mom-'n-pop stores they like

"Support the mom-'n-pop stores if you want them to stay."

That was Julie Slattery's message on Wednesday when she closed Seekers Coffee House forever.

"If there's a small mom-'n-pop out there that you tend to like, do what you can to support them because times are tough," she said.

Slattery has run Seekers -- a once-franchised cafe started by youth ministers -- for the last five years. Mentor was Seekers final location.

Jamie LaMacchia said her church would often hold Bible studies there.

"I'm going to miss the camaraderie of the place," LaMacchia said. "It always made me feel welcome."

Slattery said she had struggled with the decision to close earlier but was kind of relieved now the decision was made. She added that all of her employees were able to find jobs elsewhere.

For Slattery, she also works as a DJ and performs worship music at churches.

"The plan is to do more of that and stay busy," Slattery said, "because busy hands are happy hands."
