Westbound Lanes of Mentor Ave. Near Staples Closed Sunday After Crash

A driver and passenger were admitted to Hillcrest with non-life-threatening injuries

Mentor Police closed a small portion of Mentor Avenue Sunday morning following a two-car collision that sent two to the hospital.

A 56-year-old Painesville man's Pontiac Solstice was struck by another car at 9: 50 a.m. as he was pulling out of Staples at 9215 Mentor Ave. The second car, a Ford Explorer driven by a 31-year-old Geneva man, had already been traveling westbound on the road when it hit the driver's side of the Solstice, Mentor Police Lt. Tim Allen said.

The driver of the Solstice and a passenger in the Explorer were both admitted to Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights with non-life-threatening injuries, Allen said.

A small portion of the westbound lanes in front of the business were closed for about an hour, Allen said.

"It looked a lot worse than it was," Allen said. "I called to check on them this morning and it looks like they'll be fine."
