Free legal clinic offered by Legal Aid for seniors in Mount Vernon (mountvernonnews.com) — Low-income Mount Vernon residents aged 60 and older can sign up now for a free legal clinic at The Station Break Senior Citizens Center on January 21, 2026. Attorneys will help prepare simple wills, financial and medical powers of attorney, and transfer-on-death affidavits, but advance registration by phone is required to reserve a spot.
   

2. Legislation Passed by Mount Vernon City Council, December 8, 2025 (wmvo.com) — Mount Vernon City Council just approved a slate of measures affecting wastewater rates, police equipment, property acquisitions, and the 2026 city budget. Residents can review the full legislation list, including sanitary upgrades on Mansfield Avenue and Cottage Street and new Taser devices for police, at the Clerk of Council’s office on Public Square or online.
   

3. Cougars claim victory over Marian University in conference match-up (mountvernonnews.com) — Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s men’s basketball team rolled to a 78–63 home win over Marian University at Ariel Arena in Mount Vernon, improving to 9–2 overall. Standout Peyton Heiss poured in a career‑high 27 points, while Coach Ronai praised the Cougars’ improving defense as they prepare for a non‑conference trip to Campbellsville on December 13.
   

4. Food for the Hungry awards $10K grant to Salvation Army of Mount Vernon (mountvernonnews.com) — The Salvation Army of Mount Vernon is receiving a $10,000 Food for the Hungry grant to buy new refrigeration for its Choice Pantry, now under renovation. This upgrade will expand fresh food options, support thousands of local meals, and complement plans for a new childcare facility opening in January 2026.
