CORS and Head Start funding in Piqua restored after government shutdown (dayton247now.com) — Head Start and Early Head Start services based in Piqua are fully funded again after a brief disruption during the recent federal government shutdown, avoiding layoffs and longer service pauses. Local leaders in Miami and Shelby counties provided emergency support so Piqua-area families with young children, including pregnant moms, could keep accessing meals, diapers, and full‑day early childhood care.
   

2. Piqua resident receives Jan Mulder Citizenship Award (miamivalleytoday.com) — A Piqua man, Julio (Chris) DeLeon, has been honored with the Jan Mulder Citizenship Award and an Ohio House proclamation for rescuing resident Brian Markin from a house explosion on Covington Avenue. City leaders, first responders, and Markin’s family joined in recognizing his bravery at the final Piqua City Commission meeting of 2025, praising his quick action that saved a neighbor’s life.
   

3. Piqua PD K-9 Pako gets body armor donation (miamivalleytoday.com) — Piqua Police Department’s K-9 Pako is getting a new bullet- and stab-resistant vest, donated through the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. Sponsored by a Michigan supporter, the custom-fitted armor will help protect Pako as he assists officers serving Piqua residents in daily police work.
   

4. H.S. Results 12/10: Wayne wrestling takes pair of Wednesday wins (daytondailynews.com) — Piqua High School’s boys and girls basketball teams both fell to West Carrollton on Wednesday, with the boys losing 58–24 and the girls 39–29 despite a strong night from Grigsby. The roundup also highlights results for nearby schools like Troy, Sidney, and Tippecanoe, giving local fans a quick look at how area rivals fared across basketball and wrestling.
