• Doctors claim retaliation, defamation in lawsuit against University Hospitals (cleveland.com) — Residents may recall a July rally outside University Hospitals’ Management Services Center in Shaker Heights, where supporters protested the firing of two pediatricians who raised patient-safety concerns. Those doctors have now filed a lawsuit alleging wrongful termination and defamation, saying they were punished for speaking up about understaffing, medication shortages, and lab delays at UH’s Ahuja Medical Center.
   

• Cleveland tries to stop auction of 14 troubled apartment buildings near Shaker Square (news5cleveland.com) — One of the 14 troubled apartment buildings tied to a looming foreclosure auction sits in Shaker Heights, just a short walk from Shaker Square, and its future could shape housing stability for nearby residents. Cleveland officials are pressuring Fannie Mae to halt the January auction and instead work with local nonprofits or vetted developers to rehab the mostly vacant buildings and protect this key gateway neighborhood.
