Shaker Heights HS alum to co-chair Black Journalists convention
National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention will be held in Cleveland August 6-10; Wesley Lowery is convention co-chair

Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Wesley Lowery will co-chair the 2025 convention of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) in Cleveland August 6-10.
Lowery graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2008. He was Shaker Heights High School commencement speaker in 2023, and commencement speaker in 2017 at his alma mater Ohio University in Athens.
Based in Washington, DC, author/educator/speaker Lowery was editor of his college newspaper, the student-run The Post at Ohio University.

Shaker Heights-to-Ohio University connections
Lowery is part of a longstanding connection between Shaker Heights and Ohio University. Paul Newman (Shaker Heights High School Class of 1943) attended Ohio University before serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Photojournalist Hannah Ruhoff graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 2016 and Ohio University in 2020. She photographed the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans, on assignment for McClatchy which operates local media in 30 U.S. markets including Kansas City. Ruhoff is based in southern Mississippi.
Award-winning artist/designer Trevor Brighton — from Skaker Heights — graduated from Ohio University in 2023, with national recognition from the Society for News Design and Society of Professional Journalists.
