Shaker Library is a school district public library serving the same geographic area as the schools but is a separate political entity with an autonomous board of trustees, appointed by the Board of Education for seven-year terms. The Board of Trustees is the governing body for the library and establishes policies and approves the expenditure of funds. Shaker Library serves a diverse community and strives to reflect that diversity in its board members, along with a balance of talents and expertise.
Shaker Library's Board of Trustees is committed to finding ways to help the library provide the highest quality service in a working environment that is friendly, supportive, tolerant, and plural. Since 1922, Shaker Library has grown from a small library within a school serving primarily children to a large public institution with one branch serving a diverse, suburban population. Shaker Library's rates of circulation, reference assistance, and programming are outstanding. Much of the library’s success is due to the exceptional dedication, integrity, and professionalism of its library board members.
